Children In Need Stubbington Youth FC

On Sunday 17 Nov - Stubbington Youth FC were once again on the Recreation ground in Stubbington - although on this occasion a slightly different match was happening.

Both parents and coaches from all age groups currently within the club played in one of two charity matches the club organises throughout the football season. This match saw the funds raised being split between Children in Need and the club itself.

The weather conditions were great as some coaches arrived early to start setting up - including the debut of the new nets which were recently acquired with funding available.

On Saturday afternoon, following a FB post to the 'Stubbington Matters' page, the club had the kind offer from Cllr Chris Wood who, being a qualified Referee, offered to officiate the game for the club. Assisted throughout by some of the players - who experienced the challenges of being a match official!

Teams arrived and the atmosphere was friendly and following the initial team photograph. the match kicked off at 10 am.

A competitive well played game followed where the principles of the club of 'play to win, but play fair' were evident throughout. After an initial attempt from the half way line narrowly missed the goal it was the youth side who took the lead. Youth ended the first half 3-1 up and following a wonder goal from the games only female player (attracting easily the biggest cheer of the day from both sides) the game ended up finishing in a 5-4 victory for the Youth side.

A big thank you to all who helped set up and take down the pitches and also to Kirsty Hawkins who looked after the 'Mother Tuckers' stall throughout the morning. The final total raised was £170.

Events like these are what helps the club continue to grow and provide facilities for children of all abilities to come and enjoy learning the game and making new friends, whilst keeping the overall cost to the parents at as low a price as possible.

Thank you to Fareham Borough council for ensuring the pitch was available, Chris Wood for giving up his free time and to all parents, coaches and players who helped set up and support both teams during the game.

The next match is scheduled for March 2018 which will then be in aid of Comic Relief.
